A Thousand Blows
Set in the East End of London during the 1880’s, A Thousand Blows is the new epic series from Disney+.
Created by Stephen Knight and inspired by real-life stories / characters; it follows the bareknuckle Victorian boxing scene and the ruthless all-female, 40 Elephants gang.
We worked with esteemed Production Designer Tom Burton, to turn his vision (and a modern backlot) into a historically based, period reality.

The Story Collective

To transform the flat, modern tarmac on the backlot into the old London streets, we used over 80 tonnes of cement to create the cobbles and pavements.
Old for New
For all of the buildings (including the Workhouse that Sugar Goodson frequented), we had to make over 200 sash windows that either matched existing buildings, or replicated period styles.
Bricks and Mortar
We had to make over 40 timber shop fronts. All facades were covered in white plaster brick sheets, that were then painted brick by brick to replicate the original London stock bricks, that we sourced from the 1800’s.
The Ageing Process
Jack Mac’s Boatyard and Moonshine Room was all made from brand new timber. This was aged down by our team, using specialist methods to transform all of the wood to look like a well-weathered, Thames dockyard
